British/French pianist and composer James Uhart originally began performing wth bassist Justin Purtill and drummer Julien Augier de Moussac in 1999, at Boston's Berklee College of Music. Since then, they've based themselves in New York City, released three albums, London (2002), Camels' Dance (2003) and Time Away (2005) and performed extensively in Eastern USA and the UK, gaining a reputation as 'New York's rising stars' (Jazz After Dark)
Weaving dyamic interpretations of jazz standards with Uhart's charismatic compositions in the vein of Brad Mahldau and Abdullah Ibrahim, the trio's style has contributed significantly to the resurgence of the traditional instrumental format. Singer Amy Winehouse teamed up with the trio diuring their recent UK tour, recalling earlier collaborations with American vocalist Marianne Solivan and performances at the Salem and Boston festivals in the US.
Individual collaborations have seen bassist Justin Purtill share the stage with Ingrid Jensen, Leni Stern, Gary Burton and Tiger Okoshi. Drummer Julien Augier de Moussac has likewise performed with some of the industry's best established performers, among them George Garzone, Harry Scoler, Kyles Eastwood, Lionel Loueke, Hiromi, Steve Neal and Jason Palmer with shows at Banlieues Bleues Festival in Paris and most recently at the 2005 Valdo dos Frades Jazz Festival in Lisbon.
Combining his European roots with the American musical tradition in composition, band leader James Uhart has created a unique and exciting form of jazz. American venues Jazz Café , Slades , Smoke , 5C and Porters , as well as The Bull's Head , Jazz After Dark , Ritzy Bar , the Spitz and the Be-Bop Club in the UK have born witness to a sensational ensemble of young musicians with a rapidly growing following.
